Things to Consider Before Choosing the Cuisinart Coffee Maker
Overview
The Cuisinart coffee makers are excellent mid-range machines that boast unmatched convenience with just enough power to brew a hot and tasty cup of coffee. Reliability, convenience, attention to detail and good price are what sets Cuisinart coffee makers apart from competitors. While coffee professionals will walk away unimpressed, these coffee makers were not designed for them – they can stick to high-end brands like Bonavita and Technivorm.
Who is the Cuisinart ideal for?
These machines were designed for anyone who drinks a lot of coffee but doesn’t know a lot about the coffee making process and doesn’t want to learn. The simple brewing makes them easy for even a complete beginner to use.
They’re also ideal for people who want to entertain large groups since they have the large brewing capacity.
Who is the Cuisinart not ideal for?
These Cuisinart coffee makers may be not for the most seasoned of coffee enthusiasts who are particularly concerned with the aesthetics of their coffee machine. So if you’re a coffee aficionado hunting for the perfect cup of coffee, these devices won’t even make them to the list of contenders and you may want to check out the last section of our article to find out the best coffee maker suitable for your needs.
Common features of the Cuisinart Coffee Makers
24-hour programmability
By using a Cuisinart coffee maker, you will benefit from this programmable feature. You can set the time you want fresh coffee to be ready (up to 24 hours) and the machine will do the rest. Just pour in the grinds, check the water, set the program to start whenever you need it, go about your activities and enjoy your hot cup of coffee whenever you want. This feature is especially useful for people who are always in a rush.
Brew-pause
Cuisinart has a trademarked mechanism call Brew Pause. This function stops the flow of coffee from the basket when the carafe is removed from the heater plate enabling a cup to be poured in mid-brew. Which means you can safely pull the carafe out to stop the brewing process and pour a cup before the cycle ends. The brewing process will pause until you return the carafe to finish.
However, you should allow the brew cycle to finish before pouring the coffee because flavor extraction rate varies during the brew cycle.
When using this machine, you can notice a disparity between the coffee flavor profile brewed at the end of the cycle and the one at the beginning of the cycle and the coffee found down at the carafe will always be stronger than the one at the top. Once done, stir the coffee before serving to blend the flavors.
Automatic shut off
With this feature, you can program the machine to shut it off as soon as the brew is finished or anywhere between 0-4 hours. This feature can be useful if you are in a hurry and the unit will turn itself off after a “set” time. You will hear five beeps tell you when the coffee’s done. The 5 beeps, combined with the wonderful smell of the world make an awesome alarm clock :))
Adjustable temperature control
The adjustable heater plate allows you to set the warmer to the temperature you want your coffee to start at. This is one of the most important features of a coffee maker since it ensures that the brewed coffee that sits for any length of time doesn’t overheat and doesn’t taste burnt.
With these coffee makers, you can decide if you want to keep the heat at high, medium or low. Choose a high setting to keep your coffee warm longer, choose low or medium setting if you have brewed a smaller pot and don’t want to risk the slightly scorches taste that can sometimes occur when coffee is kept on a hotplate for too long.
Filter system
The permanent gold tone filter and the charcoal water filter will ensure that your water is pure with no funky tastes or smells. The refined coffee and water will let you have smooth, fresh and tasty coffee.
Most of Cuisinart coffee maker models include a permanent gold tone filter and a charcoal water filter. These inbuilt mechanisms make these machines a popular selection among many users.
Using disposable filters although more costly makes it easier to keep your machine clean and adding an extra level of protection against the cholesterol found in coffee oils, which a permanent gold tone filter tends to let through.
However, having said that many coffee drinkers like the fuller flavor that the natural coffee oils offer. If you choose a unit with a permanent filter, it’s recommended to clean it regularly so that any remaining oils do not take on a bad flavor and ruin the taste of your freshly brewed coffee.
Self-cleaning
You can find this self-clean feature in many Cuisinart models, which will take care of cleaning the inside of the coffee maker, just leaving you the task of cleaning its outside and the thermal carafe.
If your machine is made of stainless steel, you may want to use a soft sponge, instead of an abrasive sponge, to clean it since an abrasive could scratch the surfaces. You also want to avoid generic chemical products that are not aimed at stainless steel.
Although the self-clean setting is easy to use (just press a button and it starts cleaning itself), you should follow the instruction manual before using this function.
Warranty
These coffee makers come with a three-year warranty, which is a really decent lifespan for a home coffee maker. Today, most kitchen appliances seem to fail around the 12-18 month mark, and many come with 1 year of purchase protection. So, you can rest assured that you are getting a workhorse of a coffee machine with these models.

Our Review
The Cuisinart DCC-3200 Coffee Maker is a versatile drip coffee maker that produces good-tasting coffee. It comes with convenience features like hands-free brew and cleaning, a drip-free spout that helps avoid a mess and adjustable warmer temperature Control for an early morning boost.
Hot is always good
The Cuisinart DCC-3200 Coffee Maker has the ability to reach around 200°F, which is ideal for making a great cup of coffee.
The technology behind the water heating system in the machine keeps the hot water longer, meaning your coffee will stay hot longer – allowing for a lengthier extraction. You may find this feature helpful if you’ve ever found yourself adding more and more grounds to reach your desired brew strength. With the 200°F temp, plus the lengthier extraction time, allow for a richer brew with less waste.
Adjustable warm temperature control
The control panel allows the hotplate warming the carafe to be set to low, high or medium. Choose the high setting if you are a “sipper” or would like to add cold dairy/non-dairy concoctions to your drink. The lower setting would be your choice if you are a “gulper”.
Size
At 14 cups, this Cuisinart Coffee Maker is ideal for both personal uses and for entertaining.
But, as you may know, many manufacturers measure their capacities according to European style cups. That is about 4 or 5 ounces per cup. Cuisinart considers their “cup” to be 5 ounces, which mean this coffee machine has a capacity of about 70 ounces total or almost 9 servings in modern 8-ounce mugs.
Drip-Free spout
With the Brew Pause technology, you can pour yourself a cup of Joe mid-brew without the spout continuing to release coffee. This feature may be helpful for the busy family in the morning since they can pour their cup whenever they’re ready.
Charcoal filtration system
The charcoal filtration system of the Cuisinart DCC-3200 machine is a good feature which removes impurities and chlorine. It helps to keep calcium carbonate buildup at a minimum.
Hands-off brewing and cleaning
Another key feature of this machine is the hands-off brewing and cleaning. You can program the machine to turn on and start brewing at whatever time you’d like and it can also be programmed to turn itself off after a period of time. Better yet, it is even self-cleaning.
With that said, you don’t have to brew, don’t have to turn it off and don’t even have to clean. To be able to forget about all of those boring steps in the morning is a great thing when it’s already hectic getting ready for work or school.

Our Review
Cuisinart DCC-3000 coffee maker is a mid-range programmable coffee brewer with a slew of incredibly convenience features. It is designed for domestic use that delivers “coffee on demand”. And it does this without using a standard carafe. Plus, this brewer uses coffee grinds, not K-cups or other capsules, so it’s much cheaper than other models to operate.
The Cuisinart DCC-3000 dispenses one cup at a time. Just press a lever to get just the right amount of coffee. While the charcoal water filter keeps the coffee tasting great, the coffee gauge tells you exactly how much coffee is left.
Let’s go into some details now.
Coffee reservoir system
The most notable feature of the Cuisinart DCC-3000 is it comes with a reservoir. Opting out of using a carafe, this machine was engineered in the likeness of a dispenser. The brewing process takes place in the brewer’s enclosure, and the coffee is stored in a 12-cup reservoir. Once the process is complete, the coffee can be dispensed one cup at a time, as needed. While this feature is convenient, do not let the coffee site in the reservoir too long, otherwise, it will become stale and bitter.
Actually, I found it a little unnerving not to see the freshly brewed coffee coming down into a standard carafe the first time I used this Cuisinart coffee maker. When the brew was ready, I stuck my mug under the spout and was pleasantly surprised when a little LED light came on above my mug ensuring it didn’t overflow. The Cuisinart DCC-3000 produces hot, delightful and delicious coffee that can be kept hot for up to four hours or more without losing flavor.
Coffee gauge
A “fuel” gauge on the front face of the machine displays the amount of coffee is left in the reservoir. Unfortunately, some users have reported that the coffee gauge doesn’t work properly, but I haven’t had this problem with my unit. My coffee gauge still notifies me that I need to make more coffee if I plan to remain caffeinated throughout the day and as the insulated reservoir does not have a window, so this is one of my favorite features.
Programmability
Like other Cuisinart coffee maker models, the machine’s programmability feature works as expected: you can set it up the night before (or up to 24 hours in advance)
Not only does the machine let you program the brew cycle, it also allows you to decide how long you want the internal heater to stay on. Again, you can also set the machine to turn itself off after just a minute or up to four hours after the brew cycle. And you will get a total of five beeps to give you a heads-up that your brewing is just about to finish.
A function knob
With a function knob, you can easily switch from one timer task to another, pushing the same button over and over as you did with other coffee brewers. Whether you want one cup or a full pot, the function knob also allows you to program the brewing cycle or the clock.
Cleaning
With this Cuisinart Coffee Maker, cleanup can be a chore because you need to take apart the machine in order to clean it properly and there are multiple pieces that must be washed.
Apart from rinsing the permanent filter each day, rinse the basket it sits in. This may not seem dirty but it is susceptible to condensation. You also want to rinse the coffee reservoir occasionally so it doesn’t overflow on the next brew. Since the coffee reservoir can get hot, be careful not to burn yourself.

Coffee maker Buying Guide
What are the Benefits of Owning a Coffee Maker at home?
Fresh coffee
One of the main benefits of owning a coffee maker is freshness. While instant coffee gives you convenience in preparation, a brewed coffee made at home has a fresher, deeper flavor because the former is made straight from the coffee beans.
However, of course, personal opinions vary on how they would like their coffee. For some, they prefer the lighter taste of an instant coffee, while others couldn’t know that freshly brewed coffee has that distinct aroma compared to an instant coffee. It’s just a matter of personal preferences, really. However, it is undeniable that your brewed coffee is fresher than an instant coffee.
Convenient
With the automatic coffee maker, you can enjoy a hot and delicious cup of coffee easily without having to do it manually. Moreover, when there is an occasion in which you will be having a lot of house guests, then the coffee maker will really come in handy. Plus, if you have a large machine that has a capacity of more than twelve cups, it can save your time and effort with its ability to easily serve coffee to your guests.
Saves money
Sure, it would take a hundred or even a thousand dollars to buy a coffee maker. However, in the long run, making coffee at home can save a lot of money as compared to the coffee bought at the coffee shops.
Creativity
If you want to learn how the coffee shops do their great tasting coffee, you can make them at home using your own coffee maker. You can even find yourself become more creative in your coffee flavor as you practice brewing and mixing. If you find two different coffees, you can blend them together and surprisingly come up with your own creative blend of coffee. You can enjoy by experimenting with different flavors at home – add more cream, chocolate or cinnamon. The possibilities are endless.
Types of Coffee Maker
Drip coffee maker/ Coffee brewer
Drip models are the most common type of coffee maker nowadays and Cuisinart coffee makers, which we’ve reviewed, are drip coffee makers.
This drip type comes in a number of sizes and shapes, but when you hear someone talk about making a pot of coffee, he/she is usually going to be using a drip coffee maker. Most drip models have a glass or metal carafe, a water reservoir, and a filter chamber. Some even have programmability features so that you could schedule coffee brewing.
Benefits:
- Very affordable to buy and use on a daily basis.
- Easy to use.
- Lots of options for different brands, models, shapes, and sizes.
- Offers easy flexibility in brewing the delicious and tasty coffee for your taste buds.
- Very convenient, as it can make a lot of coffee at once.
To Keep in Mind:
- Just basic coffee makers, nothing fancy, and likely won’t be satisfactory for those that prefer espresso drinks.
One Cup Coffee Maker / Single-Serve Coffee Maker
One cup coffee makers are one of the newest types of coffee maker on the market. This type of coffee maker can be a great way to brew a single cup of coffee without much mess. When you are using a pod coffee maker, the coffee comes in prepackaged cups that have just the right amount of coffee for a single serving. A prepackaged cup includes a miniature filter and grounds, all contained within a single package.
You can buy coffee pods in all sorts of different flavors, then simply place the pod into the designated slot in your unit, add water to the reservoir and brew. Water will be pushed through the coffee pod and the coffee pours directly into your mug. But not all one cup coffee makers function exactly the same. In fact, some function just like drip coffee makers.
Benefits:
- Very affordable.
- Less waste of coffee if you only want to drink one cup at a time.
- Convenient and easy to use.
- Coffee pods come in many flavors.
- Great for an office environment.
- Will also brew tea, if you buy the right pods.
To Keep in Mind:
- Buying individual pods will get expensive over time.
- Not great for the environment since constant use and disposal of K-cups will make a lot of plastic trash over time.
French Press
The French Press is one of the most traditional methods for making coffee. It also one of the cheapest types of coffee makers available. The beauty of French press maker is in its simplicity – no electricity, plug or outlets is needed to make a tasty cup of coffee. It is stainless steel or glass shaped into a mug-like form with a lid that has a plunger with a filter.
This type of coffee maker is also easy to use. You simply pour in the amount of coffee grounds you want, add hot water. Allow for four minutes contact time after which the extraction is complete. Then, push the plunger down to force them to the bottom of the French press coffee maker. This method doesn’t use electricity that allows you full control of your brew.
But these French press models might not make the best options since they produce the coffee that isn’t always as flavorful as that of some of the other coffee makers, especially if you don’t let it brew for just the right amount of time. However, if you like the machine’s simplicity and enjoy brewing coffee with your hands, then this is may be right up your alley.
Benefits:
- One of the most affordable options.
- Simple to use.
- No filters or electricity required.
- Very little costs once the device is bought.
To Keep in Mind:
- The coffee isn’t always as flavorful as that of some of the other options.
- It takes time to master this method though but the coffee perks are rewarding.
Espresso Maker
Espresso makers are considered as the “sports cars” of the coffee maker world since they produce a strong and concentrated brew favored by coffee connoisseurs and baristas. The coffee produced by the Espresso is the starting point of different coffee beverages such as cafe lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos and more. The process involves pressurized and hot extraction from finely ground coffee.
For starters, Espresso machines are generally quite expensive compared to other types, but for most enthusiasts who really value their daily cup of Joe, the difference is absolutely worth it.
Benefits:
- Espresso machines produce the highest quality of coffee or “espresso”
- An attractive kitchen appliance to have on your countertops.
- Allow you to make the types of drinks you often see at coffee shops, like macchiatos, cappuccinos, lattes, and mochas.
To Keep in Mind:
- Makes small quantities at a time, only a shot versus an entire pot.
- More expensive than other models.
- Requires more skill to use.
What to Consider Before Buying the right coffee maker?
What kind of coffee maker do you want?
As we said, If you are looking for a convenient way to prep your morning pick me up, then you may be in the category of people who’d be satisfied with an automatic drip coffee maker or a single serve cup coffee maker. If you’re a serious coffee aficionado and want your coffee to be a part beverage and part hobby, then Espresso machine may be your favored type.
How much coffee do you make?
To make sure your unit has the right capacity to fits your needs, you should consider these questions: How many people in your home drink coffee? and How much will they drink on average?
If you have a family of coffee drinkers, you’ll want a model with a larger capacity such as 12/14 cup drip coffee makers. If you’re the only one in your home that drinks coffee, then a pod-style machine may be your best bet.
How much do you want to pay for the coffee maker?
Of course, if you like the Espresso coffee but you couldn’t afford to buy an Espresso machine, you may want to look for a model that is within your budget. No matter what you decide, make sure to consider both the short- and long-term costs of your preferred coffee machine.
It’s also worth to note that sometimes paying more just for greater convenience, rather than better taste. So if you don’t mind sacrificing some convenience to save some money, you might want to consider some low-cost models.
Other features to consider
Unit size
Coffee makers come in all shapes and sizes, some coffee makers will take up much more space than others. So, the dimensions of the coffee makers are one of the main factors that you need to consider before making a purchase.
Programmable Settings
As you may already know, some coffee machine models including Cuisinart coffee makers allow you to determine the settings based on what you like so that you can enjoy coffee to your exact specifications. From the strength of coffee to the time in which it gets brewed, programmable settings can come in handy.
Auto shutoff
Sometimes you will get caught up in a hectic schedule and forget something important while running out of the house. Having a coffee maker comes with an auto-shutoff feature, you do not have to worry about whether or not it is off. This feature will automatically turn off your machine when it has not been used, which allows you to focus on what’s truly important for your day.
Water filter
As we previously mentioned, a water filter can help ensure all impurities in your water can be removed. So you should choose a model that has water filters so that the flavor comes out just right.
Hotplate
A hotplate can keep your freshly-brewed coffee hot longer in the carafe. You can find this feature helpful when all the coffee will not be used in one go and you can serve coffee to your guests over a period of time.
Built-in Grinder
Coffee makers with built-in grinder allow you to grind and brew coffee within a unit at the same time, which is a great way to get the freshest cup of coffee every time. Of course, you can always buy a grinder separately, but having a coffee maker with built-in grinder adds convenience and helps you save counter space as well.
